It seems to me that evolution, analogically speaking, is not an arrow being shot through time and space. This theory seems dated and clumsy. It basically states that all evolutionary forms, no matter how gross or subtle they may be, can be described by their predecessors, ancestors, and antecedents. This means a prior cause always influences a necessary effect, ad infinitum. The big bang theory of materialistic science and the genesis theory of the Judeo-Christian tradition, despite their surface level differences, both adhere to the "cause precedes effect" notion of evolution. Both of these theories are problematic to me. They push everything away from the Source and Ground of limitless creative potential without ever pondering the notion that the Source and Ground of limitless creative potential is indefinitely and inexplicably married to all evolutionary forms. They try to rationalize the existence of a creator or a creative force by dividing themselves from the creator or the creative force. This is obviously absurd. The artist can't genuinely separate himself or herself from the artistic expression he or she has created, therefore the creator or the creative principle cannot divide itself from the evolutionary act. Ultimately, this means evolution is a spontaneous act where the creator and the created, the known and the unknown, and the perceiver and the perceived give rise to each other at all levels in the boundless matrix.
From some reason or another, we are unable to see this spontaneity (or sahaja) in our life or the lives of others. This is because we expect things, others, nations, worlds, and even the passing of eons to adhere to a strict set of rules. We even assume that the golden answer to the question, "What is meaning of life?" is somehow hiding in the secret textbook of God, or the complex web of life. But the key is indeed spontaneity, because spontaneity frees us from egoic mesmerism, which is another way of saying the contracted ball of consciousness we call an identity. Spontaneity opens up all the windows of the soul so the truth-breeze can finally move in for good. It smashes down the wall of false conventions and ideals. It disintegrates the ostentatious seeker of happiness, or the mad-hatter of sadness. Most importantly, it alleviates the curse of distraction and shows us that underneath Maya's paisley skirt is the fountainhead of creative potential, naked existence itself.
When we cease to be distracted by cause and effect, we are awakened by the reality of spontaneity and effortless bliss.
