Man-At-Large

Man is not simply a unit that can be measured by the three known dimensions. Man is not simply controlled by the four known forces of the universe—the gravitational force, the electromagnetic force, the weak nuclear force, and the strong nuclear force. Man is not simply a subordinate peon in the grand cosmic plan. To assume so would be to underestimate the potential of the mustard seed that lies dormant in Man’s heart.

If Man is not simply a unit of measurement, or a persona that is controlled by dynamical forces in the universe, or even tied to some sort of cosmic fate that awaits him, then what is Man? Furthermore, what role does he play in Evolution-At-Large?

Even though it is arduous to answer such questions from any particular or contingent viewpoint, a few remarks can be made that help paint a broader picture of Man. These comments directly refer to an esoteric evolution, an inward turn of the soul, a movement towards the summit of experience, or even the summit of all the experiences that are possible for any being whatsoever.

Man is, unequivocally speaking, a being who can potentially interact with dimensions seen and unseen. Man is capable of spiritual development, spiritual renewal, and, in due process, capable of harnessing a royal luminousness that can transform matter into spirit. The latter comment obviously refers to the culmination of the divine process, wherein Man acts as a “divine apparatus,” a center upon which all things emanate. And indeed this “divine apparatus”—this all-inclusive Selfhood we could refer to as the “Supra-Being”—is the very essence we must create.

But before such an essence is created through the painstaking cultivation of an inner and imperceptible visionary sense, it is incumbent upon each being to be aware of the forces that cloud or obstruct the clear path to the divine. Without amassing a knowledge of these forces, without being aware of the strings in which they pull, we succumb to the inferior, and we flounder in the shadows as though we’re blind. Once we’re fully blind, only the outer darkness could lead us to the direct opposite of salvation, the unimaginably abominable state of lightless ignorance. From here, we could only turn into automatons, morose by-products of the currents of devolution. At this time, these currents of devolution must be briefly factored into this study, for they are the very things that place a veil over the visionary sense.

If we subtract the word ‘not’ from the first sentence in this study, a sadly grim and grimly sad idea is revealed to us: Man is simply a unit that can be measured by the three known dimensions. Even though this sentence is strictly illusory in nature, it does provide us with a definitive example as to what blocks the visionary sense, and the visionary worlds or realities that arise in tandem with such a sense. It also provides us with an idea that must be dominated and overcome at all costs. After all, the development of the Supra-Being will reach an impasse if the rational soul of an individual thinks it can be perfectly described by three external, exoteric dimensions.

The idea that Man is a simple unit who competes or befriends other units is inextricably linked to the idea of economic, materialistic progress. Sadly, this economic, materialistic paradigm seems to be the dominant paradigm, and indeed this paradigm tells people—either directly or indirectly—they are nothing but subservient units who serve a great ideal. If this seems unrealistic or farfetched on the surface, I would like to direct your attention to the fact that companies in general use numbers to replace the names of people. For example, #5460 replaces the name James Franklin Morrison in a database where other numbers are stored. Also, the government knows you’re alive because you have a social insurance number. Without such a piece of identification, the government doesn’t even know you have a beating heart and a cerebral cortex. But according to the dominant paradigm, the paradigm that involves the proliferation of goods and consumer excess, these archival measures are necessary and effective in maintaining the standard of progress. However, they do nothing but maintain the illusion that all things can be reduced to units. This is all that is being done.

Of course, the idea of reducing Man to a numerical identity in a vast economic web wouldn’t have been invented without the help of intellectual sciences that reduce Reality-At-Large to bits and pieces. Scattered across all fields of scientific thought, we find a tendency to fragment and compartmentalize the very nature and order of things. Even in the domain of quantum mechanics—a field that claims to have an expansive view on the reality we are discussing—reduces all things to variations on the quanta and quantum relationship, or the co-existence of the wave and the particle. This is subtle reductionism at its finest. The viewpoint assumes that there is nothing—no order or force—that transcends such concepts, when in reality there is and always has been something that is purely transcendental. This is why anyone interested in creating the “divine apparatus,” the quintessence of the alchemists, should be wary of the theoretical maps of quantum mechanics or any scientific field that honestly thinks the map is the territory. Nothing can truly be understood or seen clearly from the perspective of the pieces or the bits. Period.

Man is simply a unit that can be measured by the three known dimensions. The sadly grim and grimly sad idea is augmented by the dominant paradigm of materialistic progress and the gross or subtle reductionism of intellectual sciences. No wonder we all stand at the eroding cliff which overlooks the chasm of madness. No wonder the full moon conjures up the will of chaos. No wonder certain beings are intrinsically violent to themselves and others. We have been led astray by systems of knowledge and lofty ideals of progress that have nothing to do with the true ethos of Man. We have fallen for the illusory tricks of maya, and we constantly grease up the wheel of samsara just for shits and giggles. But, I assure, there is a way out of delusion and malaise, and a way into the ocean of esoteric insights. For the purposes of this essay, the road inward is paved by a simple addition to an abominable idea: Man is not simply a unit that can be measured by the three known dimensions. Nor is Man even a unit. The truth is Man is an expression of a primordial unity that inexpressibly transcends the tyranny of time and the finite nature of space.

For one who is capable of tossing away the notions of materialistic progress and scientific reductionism, the path should be as clear as the path of the sun as it makes its ascent in a cloudless sky. The path is one of constant self-examination. The path is a psychonautical sabbatical into domains of vibration and force which are not circumscribed by the three-known dimensions. The path is paved by the very experiences we amass in this lifetime. The path is nothing but Evolution-At-Large expressing itself through your luminous soul. The path is the visionary sense that opens itself to the Infinite.

Amen…The sound of the west. Om…The sound of the east. God bless all beings.
