The word 'sutra' has a two-fold meaning which helps makes sense of Man's placement in the profound order of things. Sutra can mean 'book' and it can also stand for 'thread'. The first relates to the "words of the Buddha" in correlation with the structure of the individual self. The being, in other words, is akin to a book the Buddha activated through the Word. The second relates to the very definition of the word 'tantra', which describes a process whereby every thread helps construct a fabric or tapestry. This fabric or tapestry, in an esoteric sense, is nothing other than the spiritual grid of unified consciousness, or the true body of the being. Both meanings compliment one another, and it could be mentioned that both meanings act as keys for the locks that are contained in each meaning. It can be said that the book helps instruct the soul. Each sentence, or time-period of a life, is tantamount to a thread. The book is the manual of tantric threads. We use the manual to construct the great fabric. Simultaneously, the book is empty without the threads. The book is groundless and devoid of substance without the tantric art of weaving. In this sense, the tantra makes the manual. The being is the sutra, and the sutra is the being.
